PHOTO PREVIEW: GUIDING LIGHT

The Bauer BBQ kicks off next week, with the Alan/Beth/Rick triangle heating up to explosive proportions.

Beth (Beth Chamberlin) is carrying Alan's (Ron Raines) baby, while thinking it's Rick's (Michael O'Leary), courtesy of Cassie's itchy computer fingers.

Alan wants to raise the baby that's really his but he thinks it isn't, with Beth.

Rick wants to raise the baby that isn't really his but he thinks it is, away from Alan.

And Beth wants to simultaneously be the innocent young girl Rick first fell in love with over twenty years ago... while enjoying the perks that come with being the wife of wealthy and powerful Alan.

And those perks aren't just financial. Alan can protect Beth from the world. He can make problems go away. He can fix things. Rick can't even keep his own patients from dying of hangnails.

On the other hand, Rick makes Beth smile. He makes her outright laugh. Alan isn't exactly known for his merriment and pratfalls.

As the lyrics to the Starlight Express ballad, Make Up My Heart go:

One of them is strong, one of them is good,
But both could turn out wrong.
So who gets the part?

One of them has style, sets the world alight.
The other makes me smile so who gets the part?
Make up my mind make up my heart.

Beth does make up her mind next week. Tune in to GL to find out who she chooses!
BACK TO BILOXI

One of the stars of CBS' "Guiding Light" brought his whole family to Biloxi this week to help with the effort, but for every home that's repaired, Robert Newman is shocked by hundreds more still in shambles.

More, here.

LINDSAY AND SCOTT?

Ever dream of the supercouples that could be created if characters were allowed to date across soap lines?

For instance, what if ATWT's officer Jack (Michael Park) went to a cop convention and met GL's Harley (Beth Ehlers)?

What if Y&R's Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) hooked up with ATWT's Lucinda Walsh (Elizabeth Hubbard)?

AMC's Erica (Susan Lucci) and GL's Alan (Ron Raines)?

B&B's Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and... anyone male on any show?

The possibilities are endless!

Or how about OLTL's Lindsay (Catherine Hickland) and GH's Scott (Kin Shriner).

For that one, you're in luck. Before she was Lindsay and in between his many, many stints as Scott, Catherine and Kin played Courtney and Jeb on TEXAS. Not only were they younger, not only were they still decent but, in the latest batch of episodes airing on the AOL/PGP Classic Soap Channel, they were also wet (you know how unpredictable soap weather can be; people simply can't be expected to check the forecast before they step out of the house. Or bring an umbrella).

What soap fan can ask for more?

Make sure you tune in and check them out! Then use the Comments link below to tell us some of your dream mix-and-match couples!

OUR JAILBIRDS ARE BETTER THAN YOUR JAILBIRDS

Paris Hilton isn't the only daughter of a prominent local family who cleans up well after a stint in jail.

Check out our photos of juvie chicks Daisy (Bonnie Dennison) and Ashlee (Caitlin van Zandt).

Take that, Larry King!

GOLDIN EVENING

A brand new hot shot for all you Ricky Paull Goldin (Gus) fans!

You're welcome.

HOME IS WHERE THE HEARTH IS

When world got out on the Internet that this year's annual, Guiding Light Bauer BBQ would be held on Main Street, viewers panicked that it would be turned into a municipal rather than Bauer family event.

The above photo should help rest fears that even though guests like Josh Lewis (Robert Newman) will be in attendance, it's still a pure Bauer bash, hosted by Rick (Michael O'Leary), his (presumed) baby mama Beth (Beth Chamberlin) and his kids, Leah (Arielle Renwart) and Jude (Aaron Hart).

It's a GL tradition. You can't miss it!

LET THE SUN SHINE IN

Gwen (Jennifer Landon) sings, Luke (Van Hansis) and Noah (Jake Silbermann) bond, and Will (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Cleo (Jennifer Landon) take in the sights... but they do it all on location! Not in the studio! With real nature! And sunshine! ATWT goes outside!!

This is very exciting. You must tune in to watch.

MORE MERRIMENT

The Guiding Light Bauer BBQ spoilers continue!

With both Shayne and Marah out of town, Josh (Robert Newman) gets ready to play Daddy to Cassie's (Nicole Forester) son (and Josh's namesake) Roger Joshua (a.k.a. RJ).

HOW OLD AM I: OAKDALE EDITION

Everyone is familiar with SORAS (Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome). But what shall we call the phenomenon of a character actually growing younger? Soap Opera Delayed Aging Syndrome, maybe? SODAS?

Just for fun, here is a list of some ATWT characters, the year they were born on screen, and the (officially listed) year the actor currently playing them was born:

Character: Meg Snyder introduced as a teen in 1986, let's say born @ 1970.
Actor: Marie Wilson born 1974. (If Meg was 12 in 1986, with all the seducing Dusty/pregnancy test switching, she was a very, very precocious 12).

Character: Aaron Snyder born in 1991.
Actor: Agim Kaba born in 1980. (No wonder Craig didn't want daughter Lucy riding on a motorcycle with such a Born To Be Wild ten year old).

Character: Luke Snyder born 1995.
Actor: Van Hansis born 1981. (Luke's on-screen mom, Martha Byrne) was born in 1969; another precocious 12 year old?)

Character: Emily Stewart born in 1972. (On screen daughter Marnie Schulenberg was born in 1982).
Actor: Kelley Hensley born in 1967.

Character: Paul Ryan born in 1977.
Actor: Roger Howarth born in 1968. (No wonder he can keep dying and coming back to life just like dear old dad. He's got a spare nine years lying around).

Character: Tom Hughes born in 1961.
Actor: Scott Holmes born in 1952.

Character: Parker Munson born in 1998.
Actor: Mick Hazen born in 1993.

Character: Rosanna Cabot born in 1973 (as established vis-a-vis Carly's birthdate).
Actor: Cady McClain born in 1969. (On-screen older sis Maura West was born in 1972).

Character: Katie Peretti born in 1989.
Actor: Terri Colombino born in 1975.

Character: Sage Snyder born 2003.
Actor: Allie Gorenc (above) born in 1996.

Who are some of your favorite age-defying ATWT characters?

BRICK?

On Guiding Light, it's always been about Phillip (Grant Aleksander) and Beth (Beth Chamberlin). Since the 1983 Springfield High prom, where they were named King and Queen, it's been star-crossed and destined and made for each other.

But for those folks who remember that Miss Raines (then-Judi Evans; above) actually went to that historical prom with one, curly-haired Rick Bauer (Michael O'Leary), then next week's 4th of July Bauer BBQ (check out the similar poses in the two photos) is going to feel like a dropped storyline finally being picked up -- a mere 24 years after it was first floated.

It's a Can't Miss GL Moment!

SOAP STAR SWITCHEROO or WHERE PAUL LANDS

Soap star Roger Howarth (currently on "As the World Turns") will join Off-Broadway's acclaimed Spalding Gray: Stories Left To Tell, at the Minetta Lane Theatre (18 Minetta Lane, Greenwich Village). Howarth joins the cast on Tuesday, June 26 (through July 1) and will play the role of "Journals," taking over for fellow soap star Darnell Williams.

Complete story here.

FAMILY MATTERS

Behold! The first official portrait of the Riviera/Aitoro family -- Natalia, Rafe and Gus... plus Grandpa Alan Spaulding (Ron Raines) who, in this photo preview from the Bauer BBQ, seems to be gazing into the future, wondering how he can mold his newest, now oldest grandson into a little chip off the old corporate block....

CALLIN' COLIN!

Paul Fitzgerald returns to Guiding Light as Colin to help Reva (Kim Zimmer) on Friday, June 29.

Seems Ms. Shayne has another secret that she's asking the cancer doc to help her keep....

BLONDE VS BLONDE!

ATWT's Carly (Maura West) is used to having competition for Jack's (Michael Park) affections.

Julia Lindsay (Annie Parisse) - brunette.

Julia Larabee (Sarah Brown) - brunette.

Katie (Terri Colombino) is the first ever blonde to be thrown into the mix.

Will this interloper of a different color (not to mention not named Julia; Jack has moved one letter up the alphabet) affect the equation?

In the past, the third party in a Jack/Carly triangle has come from outside Oakdale. Viewers only met both Julias at the point where their lives intersected with Jack and Carly's. Katie is a different case. She had a whole history, romantic and otherwise, previous to crossing into Jack's orbit. She is a true daughter of Oakdale, having been born on screen (albeit in 1989) into a core ATWT family (as opposed to both Jack and Carly who arrived in town as adults). With such an equation, where do your viewer loyalties lie?

Let us know in the Comments below!

PHOTO SPOILER: GL

Unwilling to let kid brother Jude have all the fun, little Zach Spaulding (Nicholas Reese Art) also gets patriotic (with help from his stepdad/uncle Gus; Ricky Paull Goldin) at the Bauer BBQ this 4th of July.

And hot on the heels of his Guiding Light summer, Nicholas' movie, The Nanny Diaries, is scheduled to open September 7.

Nicholas was 7 when he filmed the role of 4 year old Greyer alongside costars Scarlett Johansson and Laura Linney.

Lindsay Lohan was just a few years older when she left another P&G show, Another World, in 1997 to star in The Parent Trap. Let's hope Nicholas' transition from kid to adult star goes a little smoother. (Maybe he can get tips from his TV folks, Beth Ehlers (Harley) and RPG, who were both working actors long before they were old enough to vote).

YES, I'M TALKING TO 'HUGH'

He was the first Frank Ryan on Ryan's Hope, the second Travis Montgomery on AMC, Deidre Hall's husband in The Deidre Hall Story, JFK in The Women of Camelot, Young Lorne Greene on Ponderosa, Robert Reed in Growing Up Brady and either Hardcastle and/or McCormick in the cult 80s TV series (above).

Now Daniel Hugh Kelly will appear as Major Winston Mayer on ATWT starting Thursday, July 5.

As Noah's strict (think The Great Santini) father, Kelly first shows up on location in Branson, MO to disapprove of his son's college plans and offer up a blueprint of his own for the boy's future -- one that doesn't come with a "No, thank you, I'd rather not, Dad" option.

This pushes Noah to a rather dramatic retaliation -- if he even realizes that it's his dad who is driving his actions.

To watch the showdown, make sure you tune in to As The World Turns this July!

ACTOR APPEARANCE: ATWT

On Monday, June 25th, Alexandra Chando (Maddie), Van Hansis (Luke) and Jake Silbermann (Noah) will present an award at the TREVOR NY - HARMONY, HEART & HUMOR event.

L
ocation: The Millennium Broadway Hotel/Hudson Theatre – 145 West 44th Street (between Broadway and Sixth Avenue) at 8:00 PM.

For more information, please visit www.thetrevorproject.org.

Hmmm... first the trio goes on location in Branson, MO together, then they present the award as a group. Are we looking at a groundbreaking for daytime triangle in the making?

Stay tuned to As The World Turns this summer to find out!

Tune in for all the fireworks the week of July 2nd. And keep coming back to the PGP Classic Soaps Blog for more and more photo spoilers as we get closer to the big day!

(Pictured above: Aaron Hart as the littlest, and very patriotic Jude Cooper-Bauer).

GUYS AND DOLLS... AND GUNS: ATWT STYLE

(With apologies to Frank Loesser)

When you see guy point a gun beneath the sky
You can bet that he's doing it for some doll
When you spot a Paul willing to risk a big fall
Chances are he's just doing it for a girl
Call it sad, call if funny
But it's better than even money

That this Craig's only doing it for a Meg
A Meg... A Meg...
ACTOR APPEARANCE: JOHN DRISCOLL (COOP; GL)

John Driscoll (possibly shirtless, you never know) will participate in an autograph signing at the Giant Eagle Supermarket Grand Opening in Lincoln Village, located at 4780 W. Broad Street in Columbus, OH.

DRESSING FOR SUCCESS

MORE THAN A LILLIAN

Tina Sloan has played the role of mild-mannered, often victimized Lillian Raines on GL since 1983 (husband Bradley beat her, lover Ed and most of Springfield still subtly blame her for the death of Ed's wife, Maureen; though I ask you -- how was it Lillian's fault that Maureen decided to go driving recklessly through the night upon learning of Ed's affair?). But in 1980, Tina was better known to daytime audiences as a completely different type of character.
Another World's Dr. Olivia Delaney was a workaholic M.D. who arrived in Bay City as the wife of perennial never-do-well Robert Delaney (Nicolas Coster). Unenthused about the idea of having children of her own, Olivia was initially miffed to learn that Robert had father a son, Cory, with trashy Clarice, then later tried using the boy to win her estranged husband back.

Will Olivia succeed in her mission, or will she dump Robert altogether for a shot at fellow doctor Russ Matthews? Tune into the episodes of AW currently airing on the AOL/PGP Classic Soaps Channel right now and find out!

And if you're interested in seeing the non-Lillian/non-Olivia Tina Sloan in action, keep you eyes peeled for the New York society pages! Acting is just a small part of this busy, accomplished woman's life. Tina Sloan McPherson is best known around town for her involvement in a variety of causes, ranging from breast cancer (a malady that struck Lillian, as well):

The event was the brainchild of Tina Sloan McPherson, a long-time actress on the daytime soap "Guiding Light," who explains that she and her friend Cornelia Mettler, a breast cancer survivor, had decided, two weeks ago, to do something rather than just sit around passively muttering to one another. Ms. Mettler was particularly grateful to Mr. Lazio as the congressman instrumental in pushing the bill supporting victims of breast cancer. The bill the president just signed without ceremony so as to spare him the necessity of having to invite the congressman who had so much to do with it--who also happened to be running against the first lady. Ms. McPherson was grateful, she pointed out, for Mr. Lazio's support of the arts, too. (Entire 2000 article, here)....

To The American Cancer Society Benefit in 2003 (see photo of Tina with Grant Aleksander and Beth Chamberlin at the Gala, here)....

A book launch in 2004....

To supporting John McCain in 2007.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: JESSE LEE SOFFER (WILL; ATWT)

Jesse Lee Soffer scored a second consecutive Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Younger Actor?

Will this be his year? Check out his 2006 photos above and let us know what you think!
