BROTHER POWER

ATWT's Don Hastings has a real-life brother named Bob.

ATWT's Bob Hughes has an on-screen brother named Don.

Bob Hastings is also an actor. He portrayed GH's Captain Burt Ramsey from 1979-1986.

According to CinemaSpy.com:

In 1949 he appeared on television in the series Captain Video and his Video Rangers. That show also featured his younger brother Don.

"I did like a four-week series but my brother played the Video Ranger," Hastings said. "I did one set-up, one storyline where I said I was his brother, which I really wasn't according to the show."

As long as they managed to keep it all straight....

WHERE ARE THEY NOW: ANN FLOOD (NANCY; THE EDGE OF NIGHT)

As she walked us around the tip of the point, where about 20 kids from Noroton Yacht Club were sailing Optimist dinghies at the edge of the harbor less than 150 yards away, Herb Granath, was untying and opening a table umbrella.

Granath, who helped develop ESPN, The History Channel, A&E and Lifetime Television, and his wife, Ann Flood, who starred in "The Edge Of Night" soap opera for 22 years, have made the secluded point their home for 14 years.

"This is about as good as it gets. The ambiance, the water, the neighbors -- it is pretty good," he said with a big smile.

Entire article, here.

Ms. Flood also appeared on AW, ATWT and AMC.

SOAP OPERA NAMES

For years, John and Mary ruled the nursery. But eventually they were deposed by James and Linda, who had to step aside for Jennifer and Michael, who were in turn bumped by Jessica and Christopher.

Today's young power couple is Emma and Jacob, according to the Social Security Administration's list of the top baby names for 2008.

But name trends don't matter much to a lot of parents....
Robin Roecker’s first name came from a female character on the soap opera The Guiding Light in 1954, according to her mother, Betty Roecker of Williston, Ohio. "I had never heard this name as a girl’s name before," she said.

Entire article, here.

More on how soaps influence names here and here. For more on GL's Robin (above), click here.
EARLY ATWT

Hyman elucidated on his organ antics vis-à-vis his radio career: "The first time I played Hammond B3 was for [alto saxist] Alvy West, who had been with Paul Whiteman. He was a great arranger who had a small band and added another member, me on piano and organ. It was because of that small entry on my resume that NBC realized that I could be trusted to do soap opera. I also did some radio dramas such as 'Front Page Farrell.' I parodied one for the Woody Allen film Radio Days called 'Tales From The Crypt.' Hyman had a long association with Allen being the auteur's music director for many years.

I don't remember playing the organ for any of those long-running shows like 'The Shadow,' or 'Inner Sanctum.' The longest run I had was 'As the World Turns.'

INTO THE WOODS

When Lynn Herring hits Oakdale as Audrey this summer, she won't be flying solo. Also along for the ride will be soap vet Michael Woods, as Jay, Audrey's shady partner in crime.

Woods made his daytime debut in 1981 as AMC's first Kent Bogard. A year later, he played Mark Wheeler on Texas, then moved to Guiding Light in 1983 as Dr. Jim Reardon (jump starting the infamous Dreaming Death storyline).

He was killed off in the middle of the Knots Landing reunion movie in 1997 and as Alec Wallace from As The World Turns in 1999 (think this guy will give Margo flashbacks?).

He also did a stint on Passions in 2003.

As you can see from the above lists, his charactors tend to wreak havoc wherever they go.

Find out what Michael Woods has planned for Oakdale, only this summer, only on As The World Turns!

A NEW WAY TO ROLE-PLAY!

The launch of the officially sanctioned Another World Today role-playing game on June 25, 2009, revived a host of classic AW characters, including Cecile, Iris, Paulina, Clarice, Olivia, Maggie, Remy, Dennis, Catlin, Nick, Gary and Josie, as well as introduced the next generation of Bay City, such as Sandy and Blaine's son, Alex -- all written by the fans!

Because some users have expressed difficulty with following the Twitter role-playing format as it now stands, we are rolling out two alternate ways to read and play along.

If you would like to read just one page that has all of the current tweets on it in traditional Twitter order, i.e. from newest to oldest, please go to http://www.anotherworldtoday.com/rpgnow_n.html.

If you would like to read all of the current tweets in message board order, i.e. from oldest to newest please go to
http://www.anotherworldtoday.com/rpgnow_o.html .

Let us know what you think of the new format on the message boards, and please keep sending in your ideas! Our goal is to make Another World Today a true reflection of what the fans want and as user friendly as possible!
