It was a dark and stormy night when vampire Barnabas Collins arrived in Collinswood and made the acquaintance of waitress Maggie Evans - who happened to bear a striking resemblance to Barnabas' lost love, Josette.

Actress Kathryn Leigh Scott, who contributed a favorite Dark Shadows moment to Soap Opera 451: A Time Capsule of Daytime Drama's Greatest Moments had the following to say about the paranormal soap opera (that's about to become a major motion picture with Johnny Depp), but I think it applies equally to all daytime dramas: The situations were often absurd, but we played everything with an intense honesty.
