GUIDING LIGHT SYNOPSIS JULY 26-30, 2010
Via https://twitter.com/MelindaSueLewis
After a disastrous chat with Blake where she admitted that she would never love Frank as much as she'd loved Ross and that's why she refused to marry him, Mindy told Rick that perhaps sticking her nose into other people's business wasn't such a good idea, after all.
Rick laughed really, really hard, and then suggested that if Mindy was bored staying home all day with the baby, she should go back to work, if just part-time.
Mindy agreed and called Marah in Paris, only to find out that she hadn't been to the office for days and the staff was getting worried. Mindy called Josh and Reva to see if they knew where their daughter was. But neither was answering their phones.
This convinced Mindy that something odd was going on and, despite Rick's warnings, she resolved to find out what it was.
Join Mindy on her quest to track down Reva, Josh and Marah at https://twitter.com/MelindaSueLewis!
Coming up next week on As The World Turns!

In response to a query in a previous post: A photo of Luke and Noah... taking a photo of Luke and Noah.
"And me with my blowtorch in my other purse," Lorna smiled sweetly at Donna, promising her and Matt, "Maybe next time."
"I think that joke has run its course," Matt snarled.
"And this joke," Lorna indicated the couple in front of her. "Hasn't?"
"Who the hell died, Lorna, and gave you the right to pass judgment - "
"Jenna," she snapped, answering Matt, but glaring at Donna.
"It's alright, Matthew." The older woman laid a calming hand briefly across his arm. "You don't need to defend me."
"From her, I do. She tried to kill you!"
"It isn't Lorna's fault she hasn't the faintest idea how to act appropriately. Just like those petty insults she hurled at you earlier weren't her fault either. Lorna simply doesn't recognize kindness or decency or genuine, human affection. It's cruel of us to expect it of her. After all, how is a person supposed to appreciate in others qualities she's never possessed for herself?"
***
Lila gives Grant an idea for seizing the future by reliving his past, Jen gets caught, Amanda asks Alice what Rachel would do while Jamie recalls what Rachel has done - and the pain that it caused, and Donna's reprieve comes to an end.

In 1983, Jackee Harry was scheduled to say two lines on Another World as prostitute Lily Mason, aunt of Thomasina, the young woman Quinn (played by Petronia Paley) wanted to adopt. (That makes Lily the great-aunt of Another World Today's current character, GQ Todd.)
Those two lines turned into a three year contract, and America's introduction to the unique, comedic/dramatic talent that would eventually take prime-time by storm on 227, Sister, Sister and more.
Another World Today spoke with Jackee Harry to reminisce about her time in Bay City, and to catch up with what she is doing now.

Don’t breathe a word of this. Because nobody’s supposed to know. But Boston stylista Gretchen Monahan is going to be a mommy!
Word from our spies in the spas is that the Rachael Ray glamour guru and owner of the Grettacole and Gretta Luxe style empire is expecting a baby with her fiance, “All My Children” star Ricky Paull Goldin in November. The couple plan to tie the knot in the spring.
Complete story at: BostonHerald.com
"You took it too far, Carl," Rachel sighed to her husband, sinking into the seat across from him inside the library, indicating the shelves and shelves of classic tomes that, all of a sudden, seemed to be bearing down oppressively on them both. "It was one thing to broaden our children's horizons and introduce them to worlds outside their own. It's quite another to raise them in a completely alternate reality." "I have done no such thing," Carl defended archly. "Homer, Virgil, Ovid, Shakespeare, Moliere, Dante, Beowulf, Oresteia, Njals, Lais; they are each, in their own way, the very foundations of Western civilization. I did not bring up Elizabeth and Cory outside of reality. I merely offered them a richer understanding of their current one." "Your thirteen year old daughter, in trying to make some sense of your past, has cast you in the role of German crown prince, and Lorna as Mata Hari." "Truly, now? What an apt and erudite metaphor." "Cut it out." The more high-falutin' Carl's language grew, the more tempted Rachel felt to simplify hers. "I am no fan of Lorna's, I think we all know that. But I will not allow Elizabeth to hide behind a version of events which paints Lorna as the shameless villain, and you as the cruelly betrayed hero. Not for Lorna's sake, mind you. For Elizabeth's. Let the lie stand now, and it will only be that much more difficult for her to handle once the real truth comes to light." "What real truth?" Carl inquired, genuinely curious. "You assert that Elizabeth has conjured herself up an illusory version of my dealings with Lorna. I daresay, you have well done the same. Just what do you believe happened between us?"

Felicia gives Lorna an honest earful about Jamie, then fills Frankie in on their plans for Lori Ann; Amanda tempts Grant, much to Marley, Lila - and Kevin's - displeasure, Jasmine confuses Kirkland, as the battle for his custody appears to arrive at a surprising end.
Plus classic clips of Frankie and Lorna's first meeting (not surprisingly, Carl is involved) and Amanda cross-examining Grant over Vicky and Ryan.

ANOTHER WORLD TODAY EPISODE #63-1: RACHEL VERSUS ALICE
"I really underestimated you all these years," Rachel damned Alice with faint praise after dropping by her apartment unannounced.
"You didn't," Alice assured. "I've changed. Thankfully."
"How dare you do this to Amanda? I know what you feel about me, but she's Mac's child, too. You claimed to love Mac once. Why would you want to hurt his daughter?"
"How in the world am I hurting Amanda?"
"Encouraging her to pursue Kevin."
"She loves him."
"And he's made it clear he isn't interested."
"Men have been known to change their minds in the past. Especially given the right incentive. How is Jamie, Rachel? I'm afraid I haven't spoken to him in weeks."
"He's fine," Rachel snapped. "I don't think he and Lorna have come up for air since he was let out of prison, but he's fine, if probably a little malnourished by this point."
Alice smiled. "I'm happy for him. For them. Please give Jamie my best the next time you see him."
"It didn't matter that I had Jamie," Rachel stopped beating about the bush. "Steve still loved you. He pined for you. And, ultimately, he went back to you. I spent years on the outside looking in, beating my head against the wall, hurting you, hurting Steve, hurting Jamie, hurting myself. All for nothing. I don't want that for Amanda."

GUIDING LIGHT SYNOPSIS JULY 11-15, 2010
Via http://twitter.com/MelindaSueLewis
Post Bauer BBQ, Rick warned Mindy against telling Frank what Blake had confided in her - that Blake would always feel married to Ross, and had no intention of wedding Frank, ever.
Mindy insisted that she owed it to her pal, Frank, as well as to the kids - Kevin, Jason, Clarissa, Francesca - who were getting attached to a family unit that might not last.
Rick held his ground, so Mindy turned to her Twitter followers for advice. Opinions split pretty much down the middle between tell Frank/don't tell Frank. One follower suggested that Mindy speak to Blake first, and get the whole story.
Mindy agreed and, with Hudson in tow, confronted Blake.
Find out what happened when Rick's almost baby-mama and his current wife sat down to a friendly little chat about Blake's current lover... and Mindy's former one, at: http://twitter.com/MelindaSueLewis (remember, the Tweets are in reverse order, so read from the bottom up)!
Catch Alyssa in the PGP/Walmart joint production, The Jensen Project, Friday, July 16, 2010 on NBC!
She’s been working steadily as an actress since she was 16 and landed a gig on the soap Another World in 1995. Before O’Keefe celebrated her 18th birthday, she was co-starring as Don Johnson’s daughter on Nash Bridges. Then she spent the third and fourth seasons on Prison Break, also starring in the 2009 Prison Break TV-movie.
More here.
WHERE ARE THEY NOW: AMANDA SEYFRIED (EX-LUCY; ATWT)
Seyfried has become something of a true chameleon actress – she started on soap operas (All My Children, As The World Turns); had breakout roles as a promiscuous cousin-kissing airhead in Mean Girls and the reluctant member of a polygamous family in Big Love; went on to strike box office gold alongside Meryl Streep in the movie musical Mama Mia!; tackled the teen drama and horror genres all at once in Jennifer’s Body; and has, as of late, settled into mentally fiscally stimulating romantic leading roles in films like Dear John and Letters to Juliet. Sci-fi/action is really just the next logical sampling in the Amanda Seyfried acting buffet.

Will, Gwen and Hallie!
Kudos to ATWT's casting director! Doesn't little Hallie look just like her birth mom, Sophie? (And a little bit like Springfield's Sarah Randall....)
After what felt like an eternity of keeping it closed, Donna unexpectedly yanked the door open with such swiftness that Felicia felt as if a visage had suddenly materialized in front of her, like some sort of spirit. Or demon. They'd known each other for over twenty-five years. If asked to describe Donna, Felicia felt certain she could have done so for paragraphs on end — it was, after all, her business to make an image come alive through words. And yet, strangely, over the past few months, as she'd learned more and more about what Donna had done to Jenna, to Dean, to Lori Ann, to Felicia herself, Felicia's view of her had inflated to near monstrous proportion, so that her first thought upon finally setting eyes on Donna in the flesh, was surprise at how petite she actually was. How could someone this delicate, this harmless, this... lovely, have caused so much havoc and pain to so many? "You look like Jenna," Felicia blurted out, unaware that she was even thinking the words until she'd heard herself say them out loud. "How in the world did I miss it before? The hair — dark and curly in exactly the same way; the eyes — those lashes!; the cheekbones, and she was small, like you. Perfectly built for being a dancer, we used to say." "She always liked to dance," Donna recalled softly, moving aside, allowing Felicia to enter John's house. "From the time she was a baby, Gloria said." "You and Gloria talked about Jenna? You kept in touch?"

Marley attempts to reach a new understanding with Grant and Jamie, Sarah calls Gregory on his behavior, Jasmine gets a pep talk from a surprising source, and Carl receives a request he's most happy to honor.
Plus classic Grant/Ryan, Felicia/Carl clips!

She was probably the first actress on a daytime serial to portray a dual role when she appeared as long-lost twins “Laura Hathaway Hillyer” and “Julie Jamison Hillyer” on “Edge of Night” in the late 1960s.

"Despite your attempt to hide," Rachel pointedly told Carl as they walked side-by-side in the moonlight, making their final check of the now deserted party area, insuring that all fires were out, food put away, rubbish discarded, "I know that you heard what Elizabeth said to Lorna." "I was not hiding," he corrected archly. "I merely surmised that my presence would only inflame the situation further, and so most diplomatically took my leave." "How much does Elizabeth know about what went on between you and Lorna?" "As much as is a matter of public record, I'd presume. Quite a bit was disclosed during my criminal trial. And then more during the Kevin Anderson business." "So when she asked Lorna if she considered herself your — " "It was a rather sophisticated way of phrasing it, to my mind." Rachel could only shake her head, wondering which parenting book might have a chapter on dealing with this particular situation.

Elizabeth shocks Rachel with her revisionist interpretation of past events, Jamie helps Lorna to see Matt's accusations in a new light, Cass pleads with Frankie to face reality, Marley lays down some ground-rules for Grant, Gregory can't believe his luck, Jasmine reaches out to Charlie, and Felicia finally confronts Donna.

"Want a little hot-dog with your relish?" Marley playfully asked her nephew as he scooped his third spicy spoonful at the buffet table over the already overstuffed bun. Kirkland shrugged, then promptly tore off nearly half the sausage in a single bite. The better, she presumed, to avoid speaking to her. Oh, well, Marley could do the talking for both of them. She was, after all, the one with something to say. "I wasn't in town for those years when things got really bad between your mother and Grant. I only heard about it secondhand from her, which means I pretty much hated him as much as she did, almost as if it'd all happened to me. Except that it didn't. When Grant first came back, you said that all you knew about him were stories, and that you wanted the chance to find out for yourself who he really was." Kirkland nodded cautiously, still not speaking, but chewing a great deal slower now. "I guess that applied to me, too. I needed to sift through which were my feelings about Grant, and which were just my identifying a little too strongly with Vicky — again." Kirkland swallowed. "So you jumped into bed with him to find out?"

Marley receives mixed reviews on her relationship with Grant - and comes face to face with the girl who could have been her daughter, Rachel offers Amanda some unsolicited advice and gets a shock in return, Carl inserts himself between Felicia and Lucas, Lorna mends fences with her mother, is given food for thought by Matt, and faces a grilling about her past from a very surprising source.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW: JUSTIN DEAS (BUZZ, GL; TOM, ATWT)
Emmy Award-winning actor Justin Deas called Connellsville "true small-town America," and he should know. He has lived all around the world. He also knows from experience that Connellsville "is a great place for the arts. It's a good location."....
He played Frank "Buzz" Cooper on the "Guiding Light" from early 1993 until the show ended in 2009. He won Emmy Awards for 1994, 1995 and 1997 for his role as Buzz.
Deas won his first Emmy in 1984 playing Tom Hughes on "As the World Turns," and two more in 1988 and 1989 for playing Keith Timmons on "Santa Barbara." But he never watched an episode.
"I hate watching myself or hearing myself perform," he said. "It got so my wife and children would turn off the TV if it was on when I came in."

In addition to writing theme songs for shows and soap operas such as "Guiding Light," and scoring Crayola and Pepsi jingles, she has penned more than 60 songs for the Songs of Love foundation - which aids sick children at hospitals around the country.
Leon first started writing whimsical pet ringtones for family and friends. Now she's creating them for the masses so everyone's favorite woofs and meows are only a phone call away.
The Gates centers around Nick Monohan (Frank Grillo, whom daytime soap fans might remember from his days as Hart Jessup on Guiding Light) and his family who move to "The Gates" when he becomes the community's new chief of police.
More here.
8) Another World, Crystal Gayle and Gary Morris. This is definitely not a train song; it’s the theme song from “Another World.” I used to love soap operas. Through middle and high school I followed all three NBC soaps religiously, which resulted in my getting voted “Most Likely to Write for Soap Operas” my senior year. My brother and I used to sing the theme song from “Another World” together in a beautiful daily tuneless duet. It was the first soap opera theme song to hit the Billboard 100. How’s that for trivia? And not that I’m looking for depth in shallow waters, but I still find the show’s epigram inspiring, even as I write literary fiction instead of soap operas: “We do not live in this world alone, but in a thousand other worlds.”
Find out, here.
"If you think no one has noticed, my dear," Carl informed Rachel as she did a final check of the buffet, making sure that all of the perishable side-dishes, salads and drinks were on ice, while the meat lay pink and ready for grilling, and the interim sliced vegetables, dips and fruits readily available for instant snacking. "You are most grievously mistaken. Just this morning, Elizabeth inquired whether perhaps you'd taken a vow of silence in anticipation of entering a Tibetan monastery.""Seriously?" his phrasing was enough to make Rachel break the aforementioned vow of silence, at least where Carl was concerned. "Those were the actual words she used?"
"Those precise ones, yes.""And you still don't think our children are a little odd? It's going to get them into trouble one day, mark my words.""I think they are brilliant and put all other dullard adolescents to shame. But that is neither here nor there at the moment. We cannot go on like this, Rachel. We simply must put an end to this unpleasantness between us.""You know how you can do that.""And you know why I can't, and thus won't."

Still shaking from her encounter with Frankie, Sharlene arrived in Gregory's hospital room to find his bed empty. "Where is he, John?" she leapt on her ex-husband, all but daring him to give her the wrong answer. "Where is he?" "I don't know," John's voice sound calm, too calm, inappropriately, horribly calm. "What the hell does that mean, you don't know? Where is my son?" "He... left." The mere effort of saying the words seemed to exhaust John into further silence. "Gregory can't leave, Gregory can barely walk." "He had help." John handed Sharlene his cell-phone and said, "He left a message. Here. Listen. It's for both of us."
